Our guest for PCA USA Podcast #30 is Xavier Vazquez, alter ego Mr. Hotwheels, an athlete who will be competing in the upcoming Duke City Classic on July 21st.
As a child and teen, Xavier had been playing sports for the majority of his life. He played soccer, basketball, track, and boxing. Then at the age 15, after a soccer game, his life took an unforeseen turn after he was shot during an extreme altercation. He was shot twice, in his back and leg. The shot to his back left him paralyzed.
Xavier was hospitalized almost 5 months following the shooting. The doctors and nurses told him every day that he wouldn't walk, but Xavier decided to fight against everyone's expectations. Once allowed, he went back to the gym, following tips from bodybuilders he knew. Now, seven years after the incident, he will be competing for the first time.
Getting to this point did take time and dedication, but he started seeing improvements in strength and endurance as he continued on his bodybuilding path. Xavier learned about the Duke City Classic from a client at the gym. They were so impressed by him, they thought he was prepping for a show. It piqued his interest and he decided to seriously prep for the show.
When it comes to bodybuilding, he enjoys the discipline of the diet, the workouts, and even the sleeping routine. His biggest challenge during prep is food cravings. The easiest part of the prep is working out - 3 hours a day, 6 days a week.
Xavier finds strength in the naysayers and the doubters. He is out to prove that nothing will stop him from his goals. Look for him on the stage at the Duke City Classic.
